The Hudson Bay Mountain mineral claims are located on Hudson Bay Mountain, a short distance west of Smithers BC. Lions Gate's mineral claims surround the Davidson Project owned by Thompson Creek Metals Company Inc. The Davidson mine development prospect has been described as the largest undeveloped molybdenum deposit in Canada. Thompson Creek has reported a measured and indicated resource for the Davidson Deposit of 77.2 million tonnes at a grade of 0.169% molybdenum using a cutoff grade of 0.12% molybdenum Contained in this resource is a higher-grade zone estimated to have a measured and indicated mineral resource of 23 million tonnes grading 0.234% Mo at a cut-off grade of 0.18% Mo, as reported by Thompson Creek. Thompson Creek operates the Endako open-pit molybdenum mine at Fraser Lake, approximately 150 km to the southeast.
The Hudson Bay Mountain mineral claims are located approximately 10 km west of the town of Smithers BC, within sight of the Smithers airport. Access to the site is via public roads on the north side of the mountain and an extensive logging road network accessing the south and west sides of the area. Helicopter access to higher areas is easily made in a few minutes from the airport.
Smithers is an active full service mining community with numerous services easily available for all aspects of a mineral exploration program or mining project.
The Lions Gate mineral claims include 70 tenures totaling over 22,807 hectares. These include a series of claims surrounding the Davidson project.
Hudson Bay Mountain is underlain by a complex of Lower to Middle Jurassic Hazelton Group volcanic rocks with a core of Tertiary granitic rocks. This complex is partially covered and unconformably overlain by a layer or dome of Lower Cretaceous sedimentary rocks. Mineral deposits related to the granitic core commonly occur in radial and other fractures systems surrounding the granitic intrusives.
These granitic rocks are comprised of porphyritic granodiorite, quartz monzonite and quartz porphyries which host the bulk of the molybdenum mineralization. Some tungsten mineralization is also reported to occur with the molybdenum.
The Davidson molybdenum deposit is hosted within the core intrusive rocks of the formation. The intrusion on which this mineralization is focused is reported to be three kilometers in diameter surrounded by an eight kilometer diameter alteration halo.
There are numerous peripheral mineral occurrences in the area surrounding the core porphyry molybdenum deposits which are typically polymetallic veins hosting lead-zinc-silver along with some gold and copper mineralization.
The Lions Gate claims surrounding the Davidson deposit have the potential to host molybdenum mineralization extensions from or deposits similar to the Davidson deposit. The northwest and southeast blocks of claims are situated within the alteration halo and have potential for lead-zinc with silver and possibly gold mineralization. The numerous mineral occurrences in the area along with the wide spread alteration zone suggest potential for another molybdenum hosting intrusive centre not evident in surface exposures.
